Dr. David Hicks |
Northwest ISD invites the community to meet Dr. David Hicks, incoming superintendent of schools, on Tuesday, May 24, with additional events to get to know Dr. Hicks to follow.
The event will last from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Northwest ISD administration building's board room, located at 2001 Texan Drive in Justin. All community members are welcome to attend, including students, families, teachers, staff and others.
Additional opportunities to meet Dr. Hicks will take place, including Facebook Live video chats and high school zone events in the fall.
The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Hicks as the next superintendent following an extensive community feedback process. Dr. Hicks joins Northwest ISD after spending six years as superintendent of Sherman ISD. He also has experience at fast-growth school districts, as he previously served as area superintendent of secondary programs at nearby Denton ISD.
Dr. Hicks believes in providing high-quality academic programs at every level alongside top-tier extracurricular programs while ensuring the needs of every child are met. He has spent the past month meeting with Dr. Ryder Warren, retiring superintendent, as well as district staff and community leaders.
Tuesday, May 17, will mark Dr. Hicks' first official day as superintendent.
Dr. Ryder Warren, superintendent of Northwest ISD, will host his final Facebook Live video chat at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5, before he retires on May 16. Topics he will address include the district’s surging growth, online enrollment ongoing for 2022-2023 and preventing vaping.
The video chat will begin with a brief update about news in Northwest ISD before taking audience questions. Northwest ISD’s Facebook Live video chats typically last about 30 minutes. For questions that are not answered during the video chat, the district provides written responses within the week.
To participate in the video chat, visit the Northwest ISD Facebook page on the social network’s website or mobile app.
The artwork of 92 Northwest ISD secondary students received awards at the 23rd annual NISD Art Show. Over 1,000 pieces of art were submitted in this year's event, including two dimensional and three dimensional art forms, sculptures, drawings, ceramics, textiles, metals and paintings.

Members of the Northwest ISD community who are interested in learning about earning their teaching certification are invited to take part in an informational event on Tuesday, April 26.
The event, part of Northwest ISD’s Grow Our Home program to train those interested in becoming teachers, will last from 4:30 to 6 p.m. During that time, attendees will hear from representatives at iTeach Texas and Hartwell University about earning their teaching certification. The event is open to both those who already have a degree and are looking to add a teaching certification, as well as those who want to earn both a degree and teaching certification.
No RSVP is necessary for the event, which will take place in the district administration building, located at 2001 Texan Drive in Justin. Attendees can park in the employee parking lot, located between the administration building and the ticket booth to Northwest ISD Stadium.
For more information about the program, please email Kim Barker, executive director of human resources, at kbarker@nisdtx.org.
